There is no such thing as an EN 10084 stainless steel. EN 10084 is a European Standard on technical delivery conditions for case-hardening steels. This typical misclassification is most likely referring to suppliers with mixed steel product portfolios, including stainless grades.

Reliable steel trades in Delhi, India, export to UAE, their valued clients include the Steel Rolling Mills and Emirates Steel among others. They stock grades such as 1.4301 (304) and 1.4401 or 1.4404 (316) with sheets, plates, coils, strips flat, long products and profile hot rolled, cold-rolled, even quarto-rolled.

Their worth is in supply chain knowledge, on-time-delivery and cutting down on client inventory costs. Value-added services such as precision cutting, sawing, punching and machining are also provided. They act as technical partners who help in materials selection, Certifications (i.e 3.1 Mill Certificates) to international standards.

These companies belong to a wide range of industries, including the automotive, aerospace, building materials, food processing and heavy machinery sectors. Through relentless innovation and a never-abating focus on serving the logistics industry, they have developed their customer driven capabilities into a full service, global and local network of expertise.

En 10084 are perfectly suitable for cold forming. Forming is a method where metal is shaped by localized compressive forces, with the steel grade covered in EN 10084 used as a raw material for the forging process because of a combination of their good hardenability and their toughness due to their pearlite structure that is produced following hot forging and heat treatment.

The “types” of forging of EN 10084 steels have to do with the various types of processes used to produce the product:

Open Die Forging :

Here the steel block is deformed between flat contour or shape counterparts under heat. It is used for forming large, simple parts such as shafts, blanks, and rings in which the metal flow is less restricted. This procedure provides high strength and better mechanical properties.

Closed Die Forging :

This process is also called impression-die forging although the process and the equipment are generally referred to as closed die forging. The process is best suited for mass producing complex, near-net-shape gears, crankshafts and differential parts. For this 1.5752 (16MnCr5) EN 10084 type grades are widely used.

Ring Rolling :

A donut shaped performer of an EN 10084 steel is pierced and then rolled under pressure to increase its diameter and reduce its gain size to achieve a target cross-sectional area. It is common to make it for bearing races and gear rings.

The main benefit of the EN 10084 Steels is their grain flow. The forging process reduce the grain structure and size, elongates the microcrystalline structure as much as possible and produces a grain structure whose direction of flow has been modified by the shape of the die and thereby increase the strength, toughness, fatigue resistance and so forth of the forging part as opposed to a part machined from a blank. This renders forged EN 10084 steel parts essential to high stress applications found in the automotive and aerospace industries such as transmission gears and powertrain components.
