The heat treatment process of EN ISO 4957– Annealing, Soft Annealed, Normalized, Solution Annealed, Isothermal annealing, Normalized and tempered, Hardened and Tempered, Precipitation hardened, Air quenched and tempered, Liquid quenched and tempered, Treated to improve shearability, Cold drawn and stress relieved, Treated to a hardness range, Warm worked, Treated to ferrite-pearlite structure and hardness range, Annealed to achieve spheronization of the carbides, Age Hardened.
This order is based on the general progression of heat treatment processes, starting with the most basic (untreated) and progressing to more complex processes (such as annealing and tempering). It also groups similar processes together (such as annealing and soft annealed) and places more specialized processes towards the end. Finally, it ends with age hardening, which is a specialized process that occurs after other heat treatments have been completed.
